Cedar shake roofs must be taken care of periodically to keep them working right and looking good. We are out in the Bethany area today finishing up maintenance on a cedar shake roof the we cleaned last week. Today we are replacing damaged shakes that are either cracked or are thin to the point that they are exposing felt paper between the shakes. The main concern in this repair work is to cover the felt paper. The felt paper on these roofs is the water barrier and the shakes must be maintained to protect the felt paper. We also are applying a preservative to the roof that will keep moss and fungi from growing on the roof and keep it looking great for the next 4 plus years.
